The basic model of a search engine is to gather content for free, index it in a quick arranged fashion so that one who is searching gets quick and relative content based on entered search terms.

There are many ways to make monies for search engines and one major way is by having advertisers bid on search keywords and ads are placed accordingly along and around search results so that consumers/searchers have an option to click on ads relative to their search. The search engine almost always benefits in this scenario because they get the awarded bid amount, and if the ad is displayed on a non search page, ie someone’s website who has elected to have ads, a cut is given to that publisher for every ad click. In this model, the advertiser may or may not benefit depending on if the ad resulted in a sale in which case the click converts and the advertiser is happy, else the advertiser takes a loss.

Recently, a major content provider has suggested possibly having their content removed from a major search engine. What happens now? It has always been favored to have content indexed into search engines to help bring traffic back to the source but what if the content is worth more than the value of it being indexed to bring traffic back? What if you could get a bidding war between major search engines to index your content for a fee plus get the traffic as a result? Loss of content to index by a search engine is directly related to advertisers and their bidding model. If this scenario ran it’s course, the balance of power can and would shift unleashing the true power of CONTENT. It has always been said that “content is king” or “content is key.” We have seen companies spend tremendous amounts of monies creating and/or acquiring content.

What do you think?

One the most annoying things about riding a commuter train is seating and not because either the abundance or lack there of, but because of the passengers themselves.

I have my schedule on a timetable when I get up each morning. I walk to the train stop, I know exactly where to stand so when the train arrives the door is right in front of me and I can get on with the highest odds of finding an empty seat. Many times I will find an empty two seater and I will take the window seat. It is about a 45 minute ride to reach the final stop, downtown and there are multiple stops along the way picking up commuters. So here is the annoying part. Someone will sit next to me….I am all cool with that…..the final destination will be approaching….still fine…the person next to me won’t get up and the aisles are filling up!! I mean come on folks! Lazy but is in no rush to get off the train, the aisles are not jam packed and when the train stops it takes forever to now get off of it. What happened to courtesy? When I am in the aisle seat I always get up if one I see a totally empty seat and two if we are approaching the final destination. What an annoying situation! Has it happened to you?

If you own a set-top box, I would really like to hear your take on pluses and minuses on the make and model you have and year you bought one to share your experience with others who read my blog.
